ICHR New Delhi announces Junior Research Fellowship 2015

INTRODUCTION

Junior Research Fellowship (Junior Fellowship) 2015-16 Applications are invited from candidates for taking the eligibility examination for the award of Junior Research Fellowship of the value of Rs.16000/- p.m. with a contingency grant of Rs.15000/- p.a. Term of the Fellowship The Fellowship shall be for a maximum period of 2 years, extendable by 1 more year in special circumstances if recommended by the Research Projects Committee The maximum number of Junior Research Fellowships available for the year 2015-2016 is eighty (80)

COURSE AND ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility Candidates who are enrolled in a PhD programme in History or allied subjects are eligible for the Fellowship (or); Candidates who are enrolled in M.Phil/completed M.A, M.Phil in History or allied subjects can apply for Junior Research Fellowship The grant to the selected candidates will be released only after they register for a PhD degree Details of Exam and Interview The Eligibility Examination will be for a maximum of 100 marks to be answered in 3 hours. Questions can be answered in either English or Hindi

Other Requirements An application fee of Rs.200/- (Rupees two hundred only) shall be paid in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Deputy Director (Accounts) ICHR, payable at Delhi (Candidates belonging to SC/ST/Physically Challenged category are exempted from payment of the fee) Second class railway or bus fare chargeable by the shortest routes from Railway Station / Bus Stand nearest to their normal place of residence or from where they actually perform the journey, whichever is nearer to the place of examination, will be reimbursed to SC/ST candidates on production of ticket(s), provided the distance travelled is not less than 30 kms) Syllabus The syllabus of the eligibility examination is as follows: Early India Archaeology; Religion and Society in Early India, evolution of the caste system; Society and Literature; The state in early India; Agriculture, Village communities and trade in early India Medieval Indian History Trends in Historiography; Themes and Issues in Medieval Indian political, administrative, social and economic history; Sufi and Bhakti movements; Cultural diversities; identities; religious and regional; art and architecture; languages and literatures; Debates on Eighteenth century Indian history Modern & Contemporary India Recent trends in modern India historiography; Early British expansion in India; Institutional changes (revenue, law, army, bureaucracy, police etc.); Response to British Rule: Early protest movements; Making of the Revolt of 1857; Social- Religious reforms Modern economic history: major processes and debates Gandhi and the Political Landscape: Techniques of Mobilisation; Nature of Mass Participation Beginning of Indian Nationalism: The new Middle Class; the formation of the Congress Agrarian discontent and Agrarian Uprisings Urban history of colonial India Muslim League and the politics of identity Making of the Nation: The Left Intervention; Growth of Caste and Communal Consciousness Foundation of the Indian Nation: Making of the Indian Constitution; Agrarian Reform and Reorganization of States

PAY PACKAGE

Exam Format 30 objective type questions of 30 marks 2 essay type questions of 50 marks 5 questions based on comprehension of 20 marks Candidates who qualify in the eligibility examination shall appear for an Interview at the offices of the ICHR in New Delhi The interview will carry a maximum of 100 marks Second class railway or bus fare chargeable by the shortest routes from Railway Station / Bus Stand nearest to their normal place of residence or from where they actually perform the journey, whichever is nearer to the place of interview; will be reimbursed to eligible candidates on production of tickets General Conditions Application should be submitted online by 10th December 2014 and print-out of completed online form with self-attested documents should be submitted latest by 22nd December 2014 Submission of Application both online and print-out of the same along with computer generated unique ID number is mandatory; hard copies of applications without unique ID no. will not be accepted Important Dates Online submission of JRF applications starts on: 10th November 2014 Last date of online submission: 10th December 2014 Last date of submitting printouts of applications submitted online: 22nd December 2014
